Leave the stock carrier up front and get a D44 thick gear set. If you want a locker up front later on, go with a lunch box type. Just make sure your stock carrier is in good shape no cracks.

I twisted the splines off on a 28 spline rear axle wheeling at Telico years ago, the Detroit was unfazed. It has been working well since Someday, I will upgrade axles when I break another 28 spline axle.

When I do, I will go with another Detroit. I have a yukon 35 spline grizzley locker in the rear of my bronco so far it has held up good seems to have more poping and banging the the detroit soft locker i personally like the detroit locker better but the yukon locker has a much better warrantee and they are cheaper not by much i use my bronco on the road a lot btw.
